Aluma, a company based in Israel that works with Israeli and Peruvian growers, is looking to expand their exports to the United States and Asia.
Speaking at the Asia Fruit Logistica, Amichai Rozenfeld of Aluma described how their existing business would fit into new American and Asian markets.
“Right now we have operations in Israel and Peru,” he said, “where we work with local growers to source a wide range of products – both conventional as well as organic like mangos, avocados, grapes, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and radishes. We work with growers providing them with marketing help, engaging in quality control and giving them technical support so we can get quality produce for export.”
Current exports go mainly to Europe and Russia but Amichai notes that Aluma is entering new markets. “Right now, we've shipped a small volume of organic produce to the United States, mostly organic carrots, and we have had some very good feedback so we're looking forward to next year.”
Amichai hopes to take advantage of that good reception and ramp up a wider variety of exports to the US.
Also on Aluma's radar is Asia, where they are currently shipping cherry loose by air and looking to supply more markets with their premium produce. “We're exploring taking grapes from Peru and citrus, peaches from Israel for export to Hong Kong and Singapore.”
But the most lucrative market, he notes, may be China, where a rising middle class and expanding wealth in general, make it a prime market for premium fruits and vegetables. “Since there are more people there with more wealth, we're definitely taking a look at expanding our premium produce there.”
